Take the guess work out of your health and wellness.

My name is Sarah. I’m a Family Nurse Practitioner who shifted to Functional Medicine after experiencing, first-hand, the shortcomings of our conventional health care system. My career started at the bedside caring for acutely and chronically ill patients. It was a hard pill to swallow that what we were offering patients often wasn’t health.

Then, my daughter became very ill at the age of 2. While the system got us out of acute crisis mode, it had very few answers for us as to how and why she got so sick, or how to support her health moving forward.

So, I began searching for answers myself. Though I didn’t know exactly where to begin, I knew I couldn’t continue operating in a paradigm that was pretending to make people “healthy”.

The journey was murky and I was alone for several years—until I found functional medicine (or it found me!). Thus, my daughter became my first functional medicine patient and is still my daily inspiration.

I would have never discovered my daughter’s unique ‘how’ and ‘why’ had I not ventured beyond the conventional model. A functional medicine approach took the guess work out of navigating her health and wellness, empowering me to support her health in a customized fashion and change our family's diet and lifestyle choices for the better. I began to apply the same approach to others, tailoring it to their uniqueness.

I am happy to report that my daughter is healthy and thriving! Now, I work with highly motivated individuals who are ready to take their health into their own hands with a more holistic approach. Often people just don’t know where to begin on this life-long journey. That’s where I come in!

What sets SAFM apart?

Functional Medicine genetic testing, with labs I trust

In Functional Medicine, we look “upstream” for “root cause”. You can’t get any further upstream or personalized than your genes. That’s why I run Functional Medicine genetic testing on all my clients. These tests serve as a lifelong roadmap to guide your health. Leary about sharing your DNA? I get it. I was too. That’s why I’ve partnered with labs I trust whose philosophies in health and privacy align with mine (and you can use an alias!). The tests we use are collected via fingerstick or saliva, making it doable even for kids!

Additionally, all my clients will be offered a genetic test for medication compatibility. Even if you do not currently take any medication, you may require medication in the future (e.g. in the event of an emergency, accident, or surgery, etc.). Everyone should know which medications are and are not safe for them, without having to find out the hard way. This information can potentially help to avoid innumerable adverse effects and immeasurable needless suffering. The technology exists, and it’s easy and affordable. So why don’t all health care providers offer this, you ask? The answer: they should. Period.

Collaboration

I value team work, collaboration, and life-long learning. Therefore, I have chosen to participate in anonymous case reviews with a collaborative team of functional medicine experts. When you work with me, you receive the benefits of this tremendous value, at no additional cost to you.

Communication

Let’s face it- in our current health care system, you’re lucky if you can get through to the receptionist without first selecting several automated options. Forget communicating with the provider outside of your 15-minute (I’m being generous) appointment. With SAFM, you have direct access options in between appointments.

I help people manage and reverse chronic health issues using genetic and other laboratory data to customize diet, lifestyle, and supplement interventions.
